Life can be expensive. And no matter what your age, it’s good to save money when you can. It’s definitely something I’m trying to work on in the new year. When it comes to date night (or afternoon), sometimes the expectations don’t align with your budget.
While it would be nice to indulge in a meal at a Michelin restaurant or head off on another expensive experience every time, the reality is that sometimes your bank balance simply won’t allow it. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have an unforgettable experience without it costing you the world. Whether you’ve been with your partner for a few weeks or years, the below ideas make for a magical date idea – no matter what your taste or your budget!
Explore The City
Following the words of Ferris Bueller, it’s good to stop and take a look around once in a while. So for this date night or day, why not explore the city with your partner?
Taking in the sights that it has to offer, you’ll rediscover the beauty of the city that you live in. Whether you spend your time walking along the streets or you enjoy one of the free local attractions (such as a museum, an art gallery or a park), you’re bound to have a wonderful time.
I recently had someone tell me they do “urban hikes”. They pick a spot in the city and just walk to it without a plan and stop at different places along the way. This would be such a cute date idea!
Host a Movie Night
Prefer to stay in and get cozy under a blanket? Then why not try a movie night at either of your houses. With so many romantic movies to choose from, from Pretty Woman to my personal favorite: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days , you won’t be lost on films to enjoy. A cheap and easy way to have a romantic evening just the two of you, you can complement it with sweet treats and ice cream!
Grab A Coffee
Love coffee? Then why not head out to your local coffee shop and grab a drink! Now, this doesn’t have to be the Most Expensive Coffee, but whatever you opt for, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up and enjoy a refreshing drink. This can also be part of a more extensive date, enjoyed before ice skating in the winter or heading to the city to explore in the warmer months.
Head For A Picnic
Know of a romantic spot for a picnic? Then pack a hamper with both of your favorite treats and head out on a picnic. Sitting on a rug, you’ll be able to look out at the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. It’s also a very cheap idea, only requiring an outlay on the food and drink!
If you’re in NYC some cute picnic places (once it gets warm) would be Central Park, or Domino Park.
Get Active With A Hike
Are you both walking enthusiasts? Then maybe a hike is a good option to choose. Whether you live in a city that’s surrounded by hiking trails or you’re in the countryside, it’s a wonderful opportunity to get your walking shoes on and head out for a bit of exercise! Not only will this make both of you feel great, but it will also give you the chance to talk and experience the picturesque nature together.
